RESEARCH

To fully understand our client a pop up event was organised. In teams of 4, we invited members of the local community to come and express their wants and grievances for their town. The day was a great success and the information was then analysed so that we had access to both quantitive and qualitative data. This enabled us to create an informed response and a brief tailored specifically to our client, the people of Stretford, based on our own individual interpretations.

CONCLUSION

Diagram illustrating how the views of Stretford could be integrated into the theme

My aim is to utilise this sense of community to advertise a new more collective way of living where by social outlets are naturally integrated.

Opinions to ponder ..

DESIRED EXTRA PUBLIC SPACE ..

This is an shows that the most wanted thing from the Stretford public is simply more leisure activities. By incorporating meal times activities this could be a good way to bridge age gaps .. everyone needs to eat!

HOUSING ISSUES ACROSS ALL AGES ..

This demonstrates that housing typologies aren't diverse enough in Stretford. My scheme could offer a range of typologies tailored to different demographics

FAVOURITE SPACES IN THE HOME ..

My scheme should ensure these core spaces can have equal validity in terms of there spatial experience rather than its current state , where some rooms are neglected.

Further Research ..

In Britain the number of over 80s to double to 6 million by 2037 with North England having the highest dependency ratios

By comparing primary and secondary research on the needs of the Stretford people it helped create the parameters for future design. As designers we must realise the potential of our ageing population as it can be utilised to address further social issues. In a town where there is a strong community, the space will facilitate the preexisting social life of Stretford by providing outlets for them. Whilst also addressing the views of the unrepresented by creating a space for all generations.
